Aurelien Tchouameni and Alex Scott are alternatives to both of those with fresh updates seeing United handed a boost to signing either the Real Madrid or Bournemouth star.

Louis van Gaal also claimed he wanted to sign the Pole during his reign, but was not able to do so.

How Chelsea could inadvertently help Man United sign transfer target

Real Madrid's interest in Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez could help Manchester United sign Aurelien Tchouameni. The French international has been linked with United on several occasions.

He has been listed as a potential transfer target for this summer. Meanwhile, Real are interested in Fernandez, who has a price tag of around £120m.

Diario AShas claimed Real would most likely need to sell some of their players to fund a move for the Argentine. With this in mind, the Spanish outlet has also claimed Tchouameni could be sacrificed to raise funds for the Argentine.

Man United tipped to sign 'several' midfielders

Manchester United are expected to unveil 'several midfielders' according to the Athletic. United were always going to be bolstering the middle of the park this summer.

It stipulated he could only arrive at Old Trafford when he turns 18 this summer. According to AS Colombia, the Fortaleza FC star started making his way to Manchester on Sunday.

It's understood he'll be accompanied by United's lead scout Giuseppe Antonaccio. Orozco is expected to link up with the Reds Under-21s squad.

Man United eying Man City raid

Manchester United are interested in signing young Manchester City duo Xavier Parker and Karin Cassim. The Reds are also trying to sign some more youth prospects, as well as established stars to boost Michael Carrick's midfield.

According to the Daily Mail, Parker and Cassim are both on United's transfer list. Parker, 16, arrived from West Ham in 2024, while Cassim has been with the Cityzens throughout his development.

Chelsea considering entering race for Man United transfer target

Chelsea are now in the race to sign Manchester United transfer target Felix Nmecha, according to Team Talk.

United have been linked with the German international who has turned many heads in the USA. However, the Blues are now believed to be showing a strong interest in the versatile midfielder.

Reports from Germany have claimed his club Borussia Dortmund would demand a fee in the range of £102million for his signature.

Michael Carrick has urged Manchester United to hold onto Amad Diallo, according to Fabrizio Romano. Diallo has been linked with a reunion with Ruben Amorim at AC Milan.

However, Carrick is believed to be keen on holding onto the former Atalanta ace. Diallo has caught the eye at the World Cup for Ivory Coast, particularly when he scored the winning goal in there 1-0 opening game victory against Ecuador.

Man United transfer target may stay where he is

Bournemouth intend on holding new contract talks with Manchester United transfer target Alex Scott. The England international will soon enter the final two years of his current deal at the club.

It's understood Bournemouth have placed a higher price-tag on his head after Elliot Anderson's move to Manchester City. However, if Scott does sign a new deal, then the club are willing to insert a buyout clause in his deal, according to the Sun.

Sport Bild have reported that Dortmund would demand a fee worth €120m (£103.4m) for Nmecha this summer.

Mason Mount transfer truth

In case you missed it, there has been no contact between AC Milan and Mason Mount's camp, despite a report from Italy claiming the Manchester United midfielder had been offered to the Italian club, reports Steven Railston.

Former United head coach Ruben Amorim was recently appointed by Milan. Amorim was a huge admirer of Mount during his time in charge at Old Trafford, but the 27-year-old is expected to stay put in Manchester.

Sources close to Mount were surprised to read a claim that he had been offered to Milan this weekend.

Adam Wharton message

Teddy Sheringham has urged Manchester United to step up their pursuit of Adam Wharton, having failed to secure Elliot Anderson, reports Aaron Morris.

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the midfielder to the tune of around £116million.

And with the news of his arrival imminent, it's one less engine room component for United to chase, as they look for a long-term successor to an outgoing Casemiro. The Reds have been linked with a wealth of talent since the Brazilian's departure was announced earlier this year, and weeding the speculation from the truth has been a difficult task for football fans.

But according to Sheringham, who represented United between 1997 and 2001, the club should be targeting Crystal Palace's Wharton as a number one priority.

Man City confirm Guardiola replacement

Some big news from the other side of the city with Enzo Maresca confirmed as the replacement for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

An agreement between the two parties had been in place for some time but a delay in announcing the move was due to compensation owed to Chelsea, who have since released a statement of their own.

United play their local rivals on September 12 at Old Trafford with the reverse fixture taking place on March 20.

Nmecha transfer boost

Manchester United look to have the advantage in any potential transfer race for Felix Nmecha.

His performances for Germany have alerted Premier League clubs with Newcastle United also interested. However, according to BILD, he would prefer a move to Old Trafford due to Champions League football.

The Magpies are looking at the Borussia Dortmund star as a potential replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who is attracting concrete interest from Arsenal.

World Cup transfer target watch

Manchester United supporters may want to have a keen eye on this evening's World Cup action.

Two matches take place tonight with a third on during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Up first is Brazil vs Japan with Matheus Cunha and former midfielder Casemiro both expected to start.

Following that, Felix Nmecha's Germany take on Paraguay with the midfielder thus far impressing for his country which has seen links to United and Newcastle emerge.

One player on each team for the Netherlands vs Morocco knockout has been linked to United with Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi going up against West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville.

Brian Brobbey has also been tentatively linked with a switch to Old Trafford and he is expected to start up front for the Dutch.

De Gea responds to heartfelt Man United message

On this day way back in 2011, Manchester United signed David De Gea...

545 appearances and 12 years later, he left as a club legend through helping them win a number of trophies. United paid tribute to their iconic former goalkeeper on X with the 35-year-old, who is now at Fiorentina, providing a clear response.

Ugarte injury a headache

The injury to Manuel Ugarte is a headache for United, who had drawn up plans to sell the 25-year-old to fund a replacement this summer, but now face being without him for almost the entire season instead.

Not only will United not be able to raise funds by selling the Urugayan, but they might need to find a replacement as well to offer cover in a squad that will be tested next season now they are back in Europe.

United will get compensation of around £6.5million from FIFA after Ugarte suffered his injury at the World Cup, which doesn't add much to the budget but could fund a short-term deal if they went down that path.

Amad transfer stance

Having already rubbished reports of Amad moving to AC Milan, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has stated that he is not considered for sale this summer.

The Ivorian is seen as a key player under Michael Carrick going forward, despite limited minutes in the final half of the 2025/26 season.

That has somewhat continued into the World Cup but Amad appears happy at Old Trafford. He also has a contract until 2030.

Former United star to take up ownership role

Former Manchester United star Juan Mata is set to take on an ownership role in A-League side Melbourne Victory, who he currently plays for.

The club have officially confirmed that the World Cup winner has agreed to become a shareholder with that off-field position to begin once his playing career has concluded.

As confirmed in their statement, Mata will chair a newly established football committee at the club as he weighs up a footballing decision for next season.

Tchouameni exit update

A Real Madrid exit for Aurelien Tchouameni is gaining traction, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

Manchester United have been linked to the France international and with Los Blancos expected to sign a new midfielder, he could be sacrificed.

He is currently at the World Cup and could cost up to £70million for any interested parties.

Alex Scott stance

Alex Scott is just one of many midfield alternatives to Mateus Fernandes, but Bournemouth have no plans to let him leave.

Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in the former Bristol City man with the former optimistic about signing him, according to The Daily Mail. That is despite the fact he is a boyhood Spurs supporter.

Though the Cherries do not want to sell, his estimated value is around £80million. That fee is exactly the problem that United current face with Fernandes.

Mateus Fernandes transfer hope

Manchester United's hopes of signing Mateus Fernandes seemingly rely on West Ham lowering their valuation.

According to The Daily Mail, the two parties are locked in talks for Fernandes. It has been stated that United will have to convince the Hammers to sell below their £80million asking price.

Personal terms are not thought to be a problem with the player keen on the move.

Amad and Mount to AC Milan?

Diomande is joined in the Ivory Coast camp at the World Cup by Man United's Amad.

It has not been the easiest tournament so far for the 23-year-old with one his three appearances made from the bench and another lasting just 45 minutes.

Despite that, links to AC Milan have emerged which would see him reunite with Ruben Amorim. Mason Mount is another that has been linked to the Serie A giants with the former United boss a big admirer.

However, it is being widely-reported that there is no truth to the links for either. Milan currently appear focused on wrapping the signing of Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain.

Diomande next club decided

Yan Diomande was another target that Man United moved on from that looked set to join a Premier League rival.

However, according to The Athletic, the RB Leipzig star has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain if he seals a summer switch. Liverpool appeared to be in pole position to sign him having made it clear of their willingness to pay a significant fee, but not quite the German club's asking price.

That is believed to be in excess of £100million and that could only increase through his performances for Ivory Coast at the World Cup.

Elliot Anderson transfer announcement timeline

Any chance of an eleventh hour hijack of Manchester City's move for Elliot Anderson have definitively been dashed. According to The Telegraph, he has now passed his medical with the deal set to be completed this week.

Manchester United were strongly linked to the Nottingham Forest star earlier this year but swiftly left the race for his signature upon learning of his asking price.

The decision to opt out of the transfer battle has seemingly been proven correct with City agreeing to pay Forest £116million.

United suffer £21m transfer blow

Manchester United's plan for Manuel Ugarte has been rocked by his serious injury at the World Cup.

It was confirmed by the club last night that he had suffered a knee ligament injury and thus is likely to miss a significant period.

The Athletic have since claimed that his issue will have an impact on summer transfer plans as he was earmarked for an exit. Transfermarkt value him at €25m (£21m).
