Welcome to the latest Manchester United transfer blog for Friday, July 3rd, brought to you by the Manchester Evening News.

It looks set to be a busy summer window for United, although they are yet to complete their first incoming signing. The club have agreed a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but he is currently away with Brazil at the World Cup, meaning that it may not be officially completed until after the tournament.

As well as Ederson, United want to sign at least one new midfielder. They have been handed a double blow by Tottenham in recent days.

Spurs officially completed an £85million move for Mateus Fernandes on Thursday, with the midfielder a key target for United. It also emerged that Tottenham have agreed a fee of up to £100 million for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.

For United, it means that they will have to move on to other targets, which could include Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni or Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha.

In better news, reports have suggested that talks have opened with West Ham over a possible move for Crysencio Summerville. Although a move could happen, it could depend on the future of Marcus Rashford.

In terms of other outgoings, goalkeeper Andre Onana looks to be closing in on a second loan deal with Turkish side Trabzonspor.

With all of that being said, stay tuned for regular updates on those topics and much more throughout the day!

United open Summerville talks

Manchester United have opened talks with Crysencio Summerville, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Holland and West Ham star enjoyed a solid World Cup with the winger emerging as a possible target for United.

Summerville's move to Manchester reportedly hinges on the future of Marcus Rashford, who faces an uncertain future but is in line to return to Michael Carrick's side after Barcelona decided against the option to make the move permanent.

Lisandro Martinez starts!

It's currently 1-1 between Australia and Egypt with three minutes of extra-time remaining.

Argentina kick-off against Cape Verde in just under half-an-hour and Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez starts for the holders.

Lionel Scaloni's side will be hopeful that they can avoid the banana skin and progress into the last-16 with their sights firmly on retaining the World Cup.

England kick-off change poses problems

Good evening and what an evening it has been.

It has been relentless and away from United, England bosses have reportedly been left stunned by FIFA's decision to alter the kick-off time for the Round of 16 clash with Mexico.

So it could be no more 1am kick-offs and late finishes but now 7pm kick-off and a slightly less sore head on Monday.

Adverse weather, thunderstorms and the threat of flooding has been forecasted which has prompted a decision to bring the encounter forward by several hours.

Rafael Leao price tag

AC Milan are set to demand £51-60million for reported Manchester United target Rafael Leao, reports Kieran King.

Back in May, Leao expressed his desire to leave Milan this summer. The Portugal international, 27, has spent the last seven years at the San Siro, scoring 80 goals and adding 65 assists in 291 matches.

United are among the long list of potential suitors for Leao, with Michael Carrick keen to strengthen his forward line in preparation for a return to the Champions League. Although there is significant interest in Leao's signature, little movement had been made regarding his departure from Milan.

Aurelien Tchouameni transfer demand

Aurelien Tchouameni continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United - and Nicky Butt has told his old club to go all in to sign the midfielder this summer.

He said: “Aurelien Tchouameni is the perfect fit for Man United. We need someone who's got legs, who is powerful and aggressive in the middle of the pitch.

“We've got Bruno Fernandes, we've got Kobe Mainoo - we don't need any more nimble or nice little players.

“We need a powerhouse who can go and compete physically and somebody who can also sit in front of the back four.

“He's a perfect one for me, really is. I think money-wise for Man United he's perfect. He's got experience, he's a top player who is playing for big clubs, a massive national team in the World Cup.

“He ticks all the boxes for me. He'd definitely be the one that I would go and get. I’d go all out for him.”

Onana loan exit details

United have agreed a straight loan with Trabzonspor for Onana. The goalkeeper has no future at Old Trafford following Lammens' impressive debut campaign. But he will return to Manchester in 2027 with one more year remaining on his United deal. Trabzonspor are set to cover the majority of his wages, with the Reds hopeful that agreed clauses will cover the remainder of his salary.

Andre Onana transfer confirmed

Manchester United have confirmed that Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 season.

The deal is subject to international clearance and registration, but once complete will see a return to Papara Park for the Cameroon international.

Onana made 40 appearances while on loan at the Super Lig side last season, helping them to finish third in the league and win the Turkish Cup.

Tchouameni's the dream

United would love for Tchouameni to sign this summer. The Real Madrid midfielder was a standout player during a poor 2025/26 season. However, question marks remain as to whether or not Los Blancos are actually open to selling him or not. If the Reds get wind that they are, expect them to waste little time making an offer.

Top targets identified

Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni and Bournemouth's Alex Scott are 'high' on the list of midfield targets for Manchester United this summer, according to Sky Sports.

It's added that the club also have an interest in Felix Nmecha, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Sander Berge, who are all on the list of potential targets.

Rodri is a name who has been mentioned, but City are keen to keep hold of the midfielder and want him to sign a new deal.

Deals for either Tchouameni and Scott are both described as complicated, with Tchouameni's position at Reak Madrid unclear, and Bournemouth's unwillingness to cash in on one of their key players this summer.

United eye World Cup starlet

Manchester United are one of the clubs keeping an eye on Mexico star Gilberto Mora, according to reports.

He has made three appearances for his nation at this year's World Cup, despite still only being 17 years old.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that United are competing with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid for his signature. While he won't be allowed to leave Mexico until he is 18, clubs would be able to complete the signing and then loan him back out to his current club, Tijuana.

The Mexican side are said to want €40 million (£34.3m) to sell him, with United having another chance to watch him when Mexico take on England in the round of 16 in the early hours of Monday morning.

Summerville arrival would mean one thing

Summerville is one of a number of players on United's radar this summer as they look to bolster the left flank. Were he to sign, of which there is no guarantee of course, it would almost certainly mean the end for Rashford at United. Cunha and Dorgu can already operate in that position, adding Summerville would leave Rashford potentially fourth choice.

Interestingly, United will welcome Rashford back to first team training should a transfer not be resolved for him following the World Cup. The Reds are open to keeping him if they don't receive an offer they perceive as being good enough. So that could impact any deal for Summerville too.

Kobbie Mainoo comments

Man United legend Paul Scholes has said it wouldn't be fair on Kobbie Mainoo for him to be thrown in the England starting line-up for the World Cup clash vs Mexico.

The midfielder is part of Thomas Tuchel's squad for the tournament but has been an unused substitute for all four games.

Speaking on The Good, The Band & The Football, Scholes said:

"There’s no way he’s (Tuchel) going to play Kobbie Mainoo, he’s never going to do that, no chance."

When asked why Mainoo was included in the squad, given his lack of gametime, Scholes responded with:

"I don’t know. But do you know what? It would probably be the wrong thing to do for Kobbie now. He’s been out there for three or four weeks but he’s not played a game."Imagine if all of a sudden he’s got to come in. It’s probably not fair on Kobbie to ask him to come in now."
Mee signs new deal

Manchester United have confirmed a new two-year deal for goalkeeper Dermot Mee. The 23-year-old's contract expired earlier this week but MEN Sport reported that new terms had been offered to keep Mee at Old Trafford. Mee has played regularly for United's U21s, making 27 appearances for the academy. However, his experience at senior level has been limited. Mee made four appearances for Altrincham in the National League during the 2022/23 campaign.

He has also played for Trafford, Runcorn Linnets and Witton Albion. Despite his limited minutes, Mee is seen as a valuable member of the first-team squad and is a regular participant in training.

New deal signed

Goalkeeper Dermot Mee has signed a new two-year deal with Manchester United, according to BBC Sport.

The 23-year-old made three appearances for the club's U21 side last season.

He was named on the bench in both the Premier League and Europa League in the 2024/25 campaign.

He did have just one year remaining on his deal, but that now seems to have been extended by a further two seasons.

Carlos Baleba interest reignited

Carlos Baleba is a name who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the last 12 months, but things seemed to have cooled this summer.

However, it seems that United still retain an interest, according to GiveMeSport. The report says that Baleba remains on the list of possible midfield targets, and that the midfielder himself only wants a move to Old Trafford.

It is however added that Brighton are sticking firm to their stance, and will not accept any offers lower than £70 million for the player, despite a drop-off in form last season.

Leao may not be right for United

It is hard to argue this after he produced the assist for Portugal's winner over Croatia overnight, but Leao may not be the right signing for United. He is now 27 and has only a couple more years left at his best. At a price of potentially £60m, he does not offer resale value to the Reds. We have seen Ineos prioritise signings who can offer better value for money than Leao. A couple of years ago, £60m would have been a steal but now, it seems too much for a player without Premier League experience.

Mason Greenwood boost

Manchester United could receive a financial boost, with more reports emerging over the future of Mason Greenwood.

French outlet L'Equipe reports that Atletico Madrid are now showing an interest in the Marseille forward, with the Ligue 1 club demanding a fee of €50 million (£42.8m) if they are to sell.

A sale would be good news for United, with the club holding a significant sell-on fee of at least 40 per cent.

The report says that Atletico will make a move 'soon', having made enquiries over the player.

Rafael Leao meeting

AC Milan have held a meeting over the future of Manchester United transfer target Rafael Leao, according to various reports in Italy.

It's claimed that it was agreed that the player is up for sale for a price of €60-70 million (£51.4m-£60m).

However, it is also reported that the player could also be available on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, which could make a deal slightly easier to do.

It's claimed that Leao has his heart set on a move to the Premier League, with United one of the teams interested.

Mateus Fernandes makes Bruno Fernandes claim

Manchester United may have lost out to Tottenham in the race for Mateus Fernandes, but that comes despite the player himself admitting that Bruno Fernandes is his idol.

The former West Ham man completed a £85 million move to Spurs on Thursday, despite United also showing an interest.

In the hours after his move was confirmed, the midfielder did a quickfire Q&A on Spurs' TikTok page. When asked who his idol is, Fernandes quickly named his United namesake.

Striker boost as price slashed

Manchester United are one of the clubs to be previously linked with an interest in Levante striker Etta Eyong.

Clubs interested, particularly those in the Premier League, have now received a boost in their hopes of signing him this summer.

According to TalkSPORT's Ben Jacobs, the 22-year-old's release clause has been reduced to €20 million (£17m), with the player preferring a move to England.

Marcus Rashford impact

The future of Marcus Rashford could have a big impact on any move for Crysencio Summerville in this window, according to TalkSPORT's Ben Jacobs.

It's reported that United have opened direct contact with West Ham over a possible move for the Dutch international.

However, Rashford is set to return to United after the World Cup, after Barcelona decided against making his loan deal permanent.

If Rashford is not sold this summer, then it may mean that United decide against bringing in another player in the same position.

Deal 'signed'

Andre Onana has signed a deal that will see him return to Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan for another season.

The Daily Mail reports that the paperwork has been signed on a deal in the last 24 hours. The agreement will see the loan club pay a loan fee of up to £1.3 million, depending on their performance next season.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan with the club, where he impressed and looks set to return for another season.

Contact between United and West Ham for Summerville

GiveMeSport claim that Manchester United have made contact with West Ham over a move for Crycensio Summerville. Reds sources say talks are exploratory at present, but the Dutchman is admired by those at Old Trafford.

A Marcus Rashford sale could be a defining factor in securing the 24-year-old.

Keane and Ferdinand like lesser talked about target

Adam Wharton has not been mentioned half as much as the likes of Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott and Elliot Anderson this summer, and that could come as a disappointment to Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand.

The pair of former Reds stars are thought to be admirers of the Crystal Palace midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for what feels like an era, sharing their praise publicly. Speaking on ITV back in November, Keane said: "I do like Adam Wharton.

"A lot of the modern midfielders, their first option seems to be, 'Can I go sideways or backwards?' What I like about him, the first option he seems to look at it is, 'Can I pass it forward?' And that's a big strength to have."

United prioritise Tchouameni

TEAMtalk claim that Manchester United are targeting Aurelien Tchouameni as a number one target this summer, over the likes of Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba.

Onana secures future in Turkey

Reports claim that Andre Onana has agreed another loan deal with Trabzonspor for 2026/27. United will sere just north of £1m for the move, which is currently being formalised. There is no obligation to buy included.

Araujo interest remains

United are also still said to be interested in Maxi Araujo, who has been representing Uruguay at the World Cup. Calcio Mercato claim that the Reds have enquired about the left-back, who has a £70m release clause in his Sporting CP contract.

However, it is understood that United are looking for a lower price on the defender.
